Ian Parry

The Headteacher of Meols Cop High in Southport is leaving the school to take on a new challenge.

Mr Ian Parry, who has led the school on Meols Cop Road for the past four years, will hand over the reins to Mr Davies, who he says has been “a significant driving force behind every key development at Meols Cop in recent years”.

Mr Parry tweeted: “It has been a huge privilege to work with this exceptional team at Meols Cop High School .

“This school is an incredible place and I am looking forward to working closely with them in my new role with Southport Learning Trust.”

He begins his new post as Director of Education in January 2024.

In a letter to parents at Meols Cop earlier this term, he wrote: “Mr Davis has worked at Meols Cop for 13 years in a variety of roles including teacher of History, Progress Leader, Assistant SENDCo and Assistant Headteacher.

“On a personal level Mr Davis has been a significant driving force behind every key development at Meols Cop in recent years.

“Importantly Mr Davis is a familiar face to both the students, parents and wider school community and his commitment to our school vision of ‘Brokering Aspirations’ will further enhance the life chances of every young person that walks through our doors.”

Ian Parry has been a teacher and school leader for over 20 years.

During that time he has worked with exceptional professionals who have a deep commitment to improving the life chances of young people in schools across the North West.

He was appointed as the Headteacher of Meols Cop High School in 2019, and has worked with  a talented team of professionals serving an ambitious local community every day.

He is the Chair of Southport Association of Secondary Headteachers, a member of both the Regional and National Headteachers Careers Advisory Boards and Lead the Research School in delivering school improvement for Sefton schools.

Growing up and living in Southport has given him a unique insight into the powerful impact education can play in our town and the wider area.

He wrote: “We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place with so much to offer. A highly ambitious education system will play an essential part of its future in creating ambitious innovators, visionary thinkers and extraordinary pioneers to positively impact our communities.”
