Household recycling (brown bins) in Sefton will not be collected in the week after Christmas due to the local authority’s cost-saving Christmas & New Year shutdown.

All brown bins due to be collected during the week commencing Monday 25th December 2023 will be suspended.

Residents who are due to have their collection during this week will instead have their recycling collected as scheduled during the week commencing Monday 8th January 2024.

Each year, Sefton Council provides restricted services only throughout Christmas and New Year as most staff are required to take unpaid leave as part of a series of cost-saving measures.

Waste collections are included in this restricted service.

Sefton Council said in a post: “At this time of year, we do ask for volunteers to work but understandably some colleagues do want to take the whole break.

“This voluntary service means there will be a small number of missed collections over the festive period.

“Our waste collection teams will prioritise grey bins and refuse sacks during this time.

“If any large items, or excess waste needs to be disposed of, the Household Waste Recycling Centres are open every day apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. The centres will be open from 8am to 5pm.

“We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding.”
