A team of dedicated ward staff at Southport Hospital have won an award for the high standards of care they provide to patients.

Staff from Ward 10B at the hospital, which looks after people recovering from surgery, won the “Excellence in Clinical Care’’ award at the first Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust staff awards.

Staff, who were praised for their commitment to providing high quality patient care, received their award from Hits Radio Breakfast Show’s Leanne Campbell and Joel Ross.

Their award citation said: “This team of dedicated professionals make patient-centred care a priority.

“One of the busiest surgical wards at the Trust, this well-led team works extremely hard to deliver the highest standards to an increasing number of complex patients.

“Feedback from patients is overwhelmingly positive, and colleagues across the hospitals praise the team for their consistent professionalism and efficiency.’’

Ormskirk Hospital’s Ward H was shortlisted for the award.

The team’s nomination described the staff from the elective orthopaedics ward as: “professional and positive’’ adding “this team has worked tirelessly to improve waiting times and reduce length of stay, whilst consistently providing a high-quality service.

“Patients say the care they receive from this multi-disciplinary team is excellent, and the difference they make is immeasurable. They are incredibly grateful for their expertise.’’

More than 1,200 members of staff gathered together, alongside a host of famous faces, to recognise the enormous difference our local NHS heroes have made to the lives of their many patients and the local community over the last year, and the hard work and commitment they continue to show every day.
