People are being reminded to stay away from hospital if they have Covid symptoms or upset stomachs.
Southport and Ormskirk hospitals remain extremely busy with very high levels of attendances at A&E.
Staff are also managing rising cases of Covid infection in patients as well as outbreaks of norovirus-related diarrhoea and vomiting.
While those patients with Covid are usually presenting with other conditions, the need to isolate them is putting additional pressure on managing beds.
Andrew Chalmers, Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control, said: “We are urging people not to visit or attend hospital if they have Covid, or symptoms of nausea, diarrhoea or vomiting. Please call ahead for advice is you already have an appointment.
“People who make their own way to A&E will be assessed at the door. They will be advised on the best care for them. For those who don’t need emergency care, this maybe an NHS service outside hospital. Anyone who wants to remain in A&E will be able to do so but may also face a long wait.”
In an emergency, you should always call 999. Where you need urgent care or medical advice, or are not sure where to go, contact NHS111 first. They will direct you to the most appropriate service. There is also lots of advice available on the NHS website for self-care options.
