Are you looking for volunteering roles that could help our local community?

Volunteer Centre Sefton is working with Stand Up for Southport to provide a monthly update on volunteering across the Southport and Formby area.

Get to know the heart of the vibrant community in Southport and Formby through volunteering. Whether you’re drawn to volunteering with young people, helping in a charity shop or have a love of music, this is a great way to be more connected to your local area.

Retail Assistant for Southport Lions – Ainsdale

The Lions charity shop located on Station Road in Ainsdale is looking for volunteers. Can you spare a few hours a week to help sort through donations, lift furniture and load the van for deliveries? Opening times are 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Volunteers can come in for a full day or just a few hours on any one (or more) of these days. Volunteering at a charity shop is a great way to keep active, meet new people and give back to your community.

Girlguiding – Southport

Girlguiding has had a positive impact on many girls’ lives, but it can only continue to make a difference with the dedicated volunteers who help out in weekly unit meetings. Girl guides, Rangers, Brownies and Rainbow units across Southport are in need of volunteers for Unit meetings which happen once a week for an hour or two. You’ll volunteer directly with young people and can choose to work with girls of different age groups between 4 and 18 years. There are plenty of ways to get involved in Guiding that don’t involve working directly with girls. You might support other volunteers in your area, take on the accounts or admin for a unit, fundraise or help maintain their buildings. Whatever your skills or interests, there’ll be a role that suits you.

Coastal Voice Project, Music in Mind – Sefton wide

Coastal Voice is a Heritage Lottery-funded project to research and explore the sounds of Sefton, North East Lincolnshire (Grimsby) and Dover through the wealth of historical and cultural influences that have helped shape the local culture. Creative workshops and filming sessions with schools and community groups will result in the creation of a large-scale multimedia piece to be performed by musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at The Atkinson, Southport, in October 2024.

Music in Mind is looking for a range of volunteers, of all ages, to assist the creative team in engaging with the Sefton community and help to deliver the workshop sessions. Volunteers will receive travel and subsistence costs and will be invited to the performance in the Atkinson in October.

Carousel Music & Movement is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) who brings the joy of music to those living with dementia, memory loss and learning disabilities. They are looking for volunteers to help them with their social media and website. This is a flexible role, where you can volunteer when you are available. This is a great position for anyone who is looking to gain experience in marketing or for a professional who is looking for a way to give back to the community.

Salvation Army – Southport

The Salvation Army on Shakespeare Street are looking for volunteers to help in a variety of roles that include:

Charity Shop Volunteers– Can you help on the shop floor, in the warehouse or drive the van for pick up and deliveries? This is a flexible role and you can decide how many hours you can give and when, within their open hours.

Café Volunteers – The café is an important community hub in Southport and The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help both in the front of house or  in the kitchen. They are looking for volunteers who can use their own initiative and confidently work on their own.

This is only a tiny selection of volunteer roles in Sefton, to search for more go to our website volunteeringsefton.org.uk
