Tributes have been paid to the ground staff at Southport Football Club for the superb quality of the pitch this season.

Halfway into the 2022/23 National League North season and the Haig Avenue turf is looking green and lush.

It’s an improvement on last season and is helping the Sandgrounders to play their fine brand of football which has seen them propel themselves into contention for promotion.

Southport FC currently sit in ninth place,  just two places and three points off the play-off places. They also play in a variety of cup competitions while also regularly hosting Everton Under-21s.

Depending on the weather, ‘Port now have two Away games coming up against Hereford and Curzon Ashton, before a Home game against Curzon Ashton on Monday 2nd January 2023.

Southport FC Head of Commercial Steve Dewsnip said: “One thing we are really delighted about is the quality of the pitch and how well the playing surface continues to hold up.

“I would like to make a particular mention of our excellent ground staff from Greener Grounds.

“As well as our own first team, we continue to take great pride in the regular compliments we receive from Everton Football Club who continue to play most of their Under 21 fixtures at Haig Avenue.

“The pitch is looking really good.

“We are in December and it is looking far better than this time last year, despite some torrential downpours in the last couple of months.

“It reflects very well not only on our ground staff, but also on the comprehensive programme of works we undertook back in the summer.

“The stadium itself continues to look great. A special mention must go to all of the club’s volunteers, without whom we would struggle to function.
