A Southport businessman who has organised a ‘Thank You NHS’ Gala Dinner in tribute to the NHS heroes who saved his life during the Covid-19 pandemic says he has been “overwhelmed” by the response after it sold out in less than 24 hours.
Andrew Mikhail, who owns Mikhail Hotel and Leisure, very nearly died from Covid-19. He spent six months in intensive care in hospital and at one point his heart stopped for 17 minutes before doctors brought him back to life.
All funds raised will go towards ICU Steps, the UK’s only intensive care patient support charity that supports those who have been affected by critical illness.
Andrew is hosting his fun-filled fundraising Gala Dinner at The Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Saturday 21st January 2023 to raise much needed funds to allow ICU Steps to continue their invaluable work in Intensive Care units.
He said: “I have been overwhelmed by the response since this very special event and my reasons behind hosting it were announced this week.
“It is my absolute honour to be hosting this gala dinner in support of this amazing charity.
“It seems only fitting that this gala dinner, held in a building I brought back to life, will benefit those who brought me back to life.”
Andrew will also be welcoming six tables filled with doctors and nurses to the evening free of charge as a way of thanking those that saved his life.
He said: ‘Nothing that I could ever do would be enough to say thank you to the incredible NHS staff but I hope that they can enjoy a special night away from the stresses of their jobs to enjoy themselves for the evening.”
The evening is packed to the rafters with first class entertainment including the ‘King of Swing’ Asa Murphy and the unbelievably talented ‘Soul Kinda Wonderful’ who will be singing a mix of floor-filling classics. The evening will be hosted by Claire Simmo and the very talented Mick Miller will also be on the bill to bring laughter to the occasion and to finish in true Mikhail Group style will be the sensational Jack Bennett.
The black-tie dinner will take place in the stunning and stylish Princess Grace Suite. Tickets for the event went on sale on Monday this week (12th December) and sold out within 24 hours.
Mikhail Hotel and Leisure is a substantial investor in Southport, owning The Grand, the Bold Hotel, the Lord Street Hotel, the Lord Street Sports Bar, Punch Tarmey’s Irish themed bar and operating the centre bar inside Southport Market.
