The Sefton Charity Champion Award is sponsored by Communications Plus, which is eager to see people’s nominations.

Submissions are being sought from Southport, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull, Aintree, and across the borough.

The winners and finalists will be honoured at the Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Friday, 26th April 2024.

A Communications Plus spokesperson said: “Charities local and nationally survive and thrive on the cash raised by big-hearted fundraisers. And they have really needed it in these tough times.

“We don’t just want to hear who has raised the most, but how they have done it, what difference has it made and why it has inspired you.”

Last year’s Sefton Charity Champion Award winner at the Pride Of Sefton Awards was Simon Davies

The good Samaritan, along with some of his co-drivers, drove several times to and from war-torn Ukraine to deliver vital equipment, medical supplies and clothing.

Simon, from World Class Travel in Formby, raised tens of thousands of pounds to fill three nine-seater vehicles with equipment, medical supplies and clothing that were desperately needed.

Once he completed his drop-offs he picked up refugees and delivered them off at various locations across Europe and back in the UK, bringing some back to Sefton.

Finalist in the Charity Champion category was John Curd, aged 78, Southport’s Marathon Man.

The retired psychiatric nurse is famous for running charity marathons and runs, even during lockdown. Over the past few decades John has run 123 full marathons for charity and hundreds of half marathons for charity.
The second Finalist was Kevin Dunne, who along with his brother Tony Dunne formed StemCell-Scousers, raising money for Blood Cancer charities after the Anthony Nolan Trust found a Stem Cell Donor to treat Kevin’s wife, Mary, for Leukaemia in 2014.

Amidst the massive worldwide shortage of Stem Cell Donors and to support other patients who are searching for a donor, Kevin has now attracted over 3,000 worldwide.

The Pride Of Sefton Awards sponsored by The Grand Southport and organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport, is an unmissable fixture in the Liverpool City Region events calendar, in association with In Demand Radio

The ceremony will be presented by In Demand Radio presenter Claire Simmo and former Sky Sports News presenter Fraser Dainton.

All those on the shortlist will be invited to a special celebratory meal in the beautiful surroundings of The Princess Grace Suite at The Grand in Southport while the awards are presented, with a stunning night of entertainment planned.

Nominations are still being invited across all 13 categories ahead of the closing date on 22nd March 2024.
