Southport FC returned from our longest trip of the season to Suffolk and a visit to Needham Market with all three points after a fine comeback 2-1 win.
After a bright start which saw Danny Lloyd force the home ‘keeper into an excellent save after just 2 minutes we lost our way a bit and the game turned very scrappy.
Both sides were finding it hard to create any clear cut chances but it was Needham Market who took the lead in the 42nd minute with a direct free kick that flew past Chris Reenshaw in the Southport goal.
In the searing heat the second half was an improvement on what had been a disappointing opening half.
Danny Loyd brought the scores level after a defensive lapse allowed him through to finish well,
In a lively end closing 15 minutes Tom Moore went close on 76 minutes but the turning point came in the 79/8oth minute when firstly Jordan Keane cleared off the line and a minute later another defensive mistake by the home rearguard allowed Jamie Proctor to nip in and tap home from close range.
As one of the good number of travelling fans commented on the way out, it’s a long way to come but it’s all worthwhile when you grab a win on the road and so it proved.
