The 2024 Pride Of Sefton Awards are appealing for people to send your nominations for this year’s Sefton Unsung Hero Award, sponsored by River Law.

It’s time to celebrate those people in our community who work tirelessly and selflessly in the background to make life better for others.

Submissions are being sought from Southport, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull, Aintree, and across the borough.

Please enter details on the website: prideofseftonawards.co.uk or email your nominations to: standupforsouthport@gmail.com

The winners and finalists will be honoured at the Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Friday, 26th April 2024.

A River Law spokesperson said: “We would like you to tell us about the person who makes a huge difference to Sefton’s communities, organisations or teams but who rarely gets a spot in the limelight.”

Last year’s Sefton Unsung Hero Award winner was Dave Smith, a former soldier who supports veterans with the many issues they face after leaving the Armed Forces.

Dave Smith founded Veterans In Sefton with Steve Calderbank in 2014 to assist veterans with the many issues they present with.

Both served in the Armed Forces and established NAAFI breaks for veterans to talk about any issues they have.

Dave was integral to introducing psychologist support into Veterans in Sefton to help people to deal with any trauma they had suffered as a result of their service.

A finalist in the Unsung Hero category was Ken Rouse, someone who has made a huge impact in Bootle.

Twelve years ago he helped his wife Barbara save Bootle YMCA from closure, and between them they have voluntarily managed the centre since.

Ken has also volunteered in Derby Park in Bootle for the last 30 years, helping to maintain this important and historic community asset.

The second Finalist was Juliet Weston from South Sefton Community paediatric physiotherapy who has worked for Alder Hey for the past 30 years and retired at the end of March last year.

She has worked with hundreds of families with children with complex needs who have been  starting the beginning of their physiotherapy journey from babies, and for some this is the start of a lifetime journey.

The Pride Of Sefton Awards sponsored by The Grand Southport and organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport, is an unmissable fixture in the Liverpool City Region events calendar, in association with In Demand Radio

The ceremony will be presented by In Demand Radio presenter Claire Simmo and former Sky Sports News presenter Fraser Dainton.

All those on the shortlist will be invited to a special celebratory meal in the beautiful surroundings of The Princess Grace Suite at The Grand in Southport while the awards are presented, with a stunning night of entertainment planned.

Nominations are still being invited across all 13 categories ahead of the closing date on 22nd March 2024.
