Flood Alerts are in place

Flood Alerts are in place this evening for a large section of land between Ainsdale and Halsall, and down through Formby and towards Kirkby and Maghull. 

The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for heavy rainfall for large parts of the UK due to Storm Henk. 

The Environment Agency meanwhile has issued numerous flood alerts. 

An Environment Agency North West spokesperson said: “There are a number of flood alerts and warnings across the North West this evening following heavy rain from Storm Henk.”

They added: “Our teams are out on the ground motoring the situation and remain ready to respond. 

“River levels are rising steadily on the River Alt due to heavy rainfall and they are forecast to rise further. River levels are high and expected to rise further at the Dovers Bridge; Kirkby gauge.

“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Alt, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around River Alt and other watercourses from Huyton to Hightown including, Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton and Lunt.

“Further rainfall is forecast this evening.

“We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

“Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Consider putting your flood plan into action. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
