Southport singer Kelly Bond has thanked people for their support after smashing her fundraising target for Shelter, ahead of her big dance event in Blackpool.

Kelly is competing in ‘Strictly Goes To The Movies’ in Blackpool this Saturday (11th February 2023).

The competition, hosted in aid of Shelter – a charity raising funds and awareness to tackle homelessness – will see Kelly and nine others competing for the Strictly Glitter Ball at Blackpool Winter Gardens.

Kelly, a well-known figure as a singer in venues around Southport, has been training hard for the challenge over the past few weeks.

And she was delighted to reach her £1,500 target tonight ahead of the event starting.

She said: “We did it everyone! Now I just need to try not to fluff it up during show night!

“I can hand on heart say I have the best friends and family in the world – thank you to each and every one of you who helped me get to my personal goal of £1,500 for Shelter.

“I’ve worked hard to master the jive ahead of the event and I’ll be dancing my socks off in the hope to bring home the glitter ball – but importantly raise money for an incredible charity.

“Some incredible companies, friends and family members have kindly contributed and offered up great raffle prizes already, but If you are in a position to donate just a £1 I would be eternally thankful

“If not, I simply ask you to say a little prayer for me at around 8.30pm this Saturday – let’s hope I don’t make a complete show of myself!”

Kelly is no stranger to fundraising racking up an impressive number of charitable performances over the years for charities such as Dementia UK, Alley Cats and Kittens, James Bulger House, Queenscourt Hospice, Mind, Cancer UK, The Diane Oxberry Trust and most recently co-hosting at the Ladies Day event for Southport Flower Show raising funds for multiple local good causes alongside Claire Simmo and ITV’s Paul Crone.

On her Just Giving page Kelly states her ambition – second only to the dream to sing with Jane McDonald – has always been to appear on Strictly, which has proved to be difficult without the required celebrity status, until now!
