One of the longest established shops in Southport town centre is wowing customers with its brand new look, after owners completed a substantial refurbishment.

The significant investment at Pavers shoe shop, at 497-503 on Lord Street, is a firm vote of faith in the town’s retail offering at an outlet which has built up a loyal following among local residents and visitors over three decades.

The Pavers store on Lord Street was just the sixth one opened by a family-owned company which now has over 130 outlets across the UK and Eire.

Eight colleagues currently work there.

Pavers was born in 1971 in York, founded by Catherine Paver, an ambitious mum who took out a £200 bank loan to fund her new business passion to find the perfect style for everyone’s feet.

The Southport shop was opened in 1993 and has been a firm fixture in the town ever since.

Pavers is now one of the UK’s leading comfort shoe retailers, with a focus on quality with affordability with popular brands such as Fly Flot, Skechers, Padders, Bellissimo, Rieker, Bugatti, Remonte and many more.

Southport Pavers Store Manager Bev Gavan is one of the company’s longest-serving managers.

She said: “I have been here for 30 years, and Pavers have been here in Southport for 31 years.

“They have just invested a huge amount on a massive refurbishment, bringing us up to date in that customers can come in, straight away see what they are looking for but without having to wait for attention from a member of staff.

“It gives us more time to interact with customers because we are not running up and down the stairs finding the products, they are right in front of you.

“You can find exactly what you want when you come in.

“The stock will be changing on a daily basis.

“We were closed for three weeks while the work was taking place. It was a big refurbishment!

“As well as work on the shop front and the sales floor, we also have a new stock room, a new kitchen for our colleagues to enjoy, and new flooring.

“Feedback from our customers has been brilliant.

“We have had a lot of younger people coming in to have a look around that we never used to see. It’s been great to see lots of new faces.

“We have traded here in Southport town centre for 31 years and it is one of the busiest Pavers stores in the North West.

We have increased trade substantially on last year and have added a new footfall counter.

“As well as lots of loyal local residents, we also get lots of visitors who visit us when they come and enjoy a break in Southport. We see lots of people from Wales, from Scotland, from Lancashire, from Yorkshire, all over the UK.

“Pavers has a really strong online presence, and we are busy because lots of customers still enjoy coming into their local shop, having a look around and trying on shoes.

“They also like the top quality levels of service that we can provide.

“Please come along and have a look at your new Southport store.

“You are always welcome and we would love to see you!”
