Southport Comedy Festival 2020 has just achieved its first sellout show – just 48 hours after tickets first went on sale!
There is a full house already for Best of the Fest Featuring Jason Manford with support from Tez Ilyas and Rachel Fairburn on Saturday, October 10.
And with tickets for other shows also selling fast, organisers are urging people to book early to avoid disappointment to see stars including Ed Byrne, Russell Kane, Jo Caulfield, Paul Sinha,. Rich Hall and Reginald D Hunter.
Southport Comedy Festival is Southport’s only big event of 2020, after the coronavirus pandemic led to the cancellation of the likes of Southport Flower Show, Southport Air Show and Southport Food and Drink Festival earlier this year.
It takes place in a large marquee built by Elite Marquees at Victoria Park in Southport on October 8-18, and is sponsored by Anthony James Estate Agents.
Southport Comedy Festival Director Brendan Riley said: “Jason has just sold out now! It’s the first sell-out of the Festival, and we’ve only been on sale for two days.
“We have reduced capacity at the event this year due to social distancing and keeping everyone safe, with a capacity of 300 in our marquee, so shows will sell out fast. Please book early if you are coming!
“We have some huge names performing this year, every night is a headliner.
“Since we launched the Festival on Thursday, the reaction has been brilliant.
“Organising a Festival in times like this, we didn’t know what it would be like.
“Our attitude was very much ‘build it, and they will come’.
“Everyone has been buying tickets since, it is great to see.
“People really want to get back to going out and watching top quality live comedy and enjoy a fun night out in a really safe way. Everyone deserves a laugh after the year we’ve had.
“Selling out our first show is a great first step on the way to enjoying a really successful 2020 Southport Comedy Festival. We are over the moon.
“People understand it is not a normal situation we are in.
“But they are being incredibly positive, they are really looking forward to seeing the only big Southport event of 2020. Local businesses, our sponsors and our partners have been fantastic, coming on board and working with us to make this happen.”
