Author and former Southport Visiter journalist, Danielle Owen-Jones

A former Southport journalist’s Merseyside-based romantic comedy is set to be published this Spring.

Danielle Owen-Jones’s debut novel, Stone Broke Heiress, will be published by Bookouture (a division of Hachette UK) in e-book, paperback and audio. It is currently available for pre-order and will be published in the UK and USA on Monday 21st March.

Danielle grew up in Southport, attended Christ The King High School and previously worked as a senior journalist at the Southport Visiter.

Danielle is currently based in Cumbria and is represented by The Liverpool Literary Agency, which launched in 2020 and is the first literary agency in the city.

Danielle said: “I’m excitedly counting down the days until Stone Broke Heiress is published this Spring. I’ve already had some lovely responses from readers who have pre-ordered and are looking forward to reading it. Liverpool – and Toxteth especially – is the main setting of the book, but Southport features in it too.

“Southport will always be close to my heart, and I loved my days working as a reporter for the Southport Visiter.”

Stone Broke Heiress is a riotous fish-out-of-water comedy in which protagonist Arabella ‘goes from Prada to nada’ when her family’s soup empire goes bust.

It has been hailed as the new must-read for fans of romantic comedy icons Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk, together with the hit TV show, Schitt’s Creek.

Clare Coombes, the co-founder of The Liverpool Literary Agency, said: “From the first read, I knew this book was special. Danielle has such an amazing writing style and comic timing.

“Readers are going to love Arabella’s journey of self-discovery (and the world of soup, which is such a hilarious and unique framing for this whole story).”

Commissioning editor at Bookouture, Emily Gowers, said: “I asked the universe for something to fill the Schitt’s Creek-sized hole in my life, and Danielle delivered!

“This book had me doubled over with laughter, and left me wishing Bella was real so that we could be friends.

“The next best thing though is to introduce her – and Danielle’s writing – to the world, and I feel so lucky to be doing this!”
