A new Merseyrail train

People are invited to come and see one of their new Merseyrail trains at Southport Railway Station this Saturday (23rd October).

The train is back by popular demand after hundreds of people took the chance to step on board and experience the train for themselves when it went on display at Birkenhead North station last month.

The Liverpool City Region will be the first to own the new trains, which are set to modernise rail services and enhance the customer experience.

The trains boast a wide range of customer focussed features including pioneering sliding step technology, which creates step free access for all, dedicated bike storage areas, more space for wheelchairs, prams and luggage plus on board wi-fi.

It will be at Southport Railway Station between 10am and 2pm.

A Merseytravel spokesperson said: “During the event, the train will be parked at a fully accessible platform.

“Staff will be on hand to talk through the features of the new trains, designed and built by train manufacturer Stadler for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

“Visitors are asked to wear face coverings on board the train and platforms out of respect for others, unless exempt.

“There is no parking at the station so visitors are advised to use public transport to get to and from the station.

“And don’t forget to send us your pictures @merseytravel – we’d love to see them!”
