People are invited to come out and enjoy great companionship as new Talkin’ Tables events launch at The Bold on Lord Street in Southport town centre.

The first event will be 2pm-3pm on Monday 26th October 2026, with everyone welcome to drop in.

Talkin’ Tables will be hosted every week with the aim of bringing people together one table at a time.

Come and join in the conversation and share the company of others.

The ‘Talkin’ Tables’ will be the ones marked with a small sign inviting you to sit and join in.

The events are being brought to The Bold by Dorothy Livesey, who has been a volunteer with the group for the past five and a half years.

Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group Cluster Manager James Bretnall-Bennett said:

“We really love the idea of Talkin’ Tables. We were delighted to meet with Dorothy and put her plans into action.

“The Bold really lends itself to these events. This is a family-owned business which has always been very invested in the local community. We already hold a variety of fundraising and community events throughout the year and are keen to make a positive difference.

“The Bold is a welcoming space and very central for people to be able to get to.

“This is a fantastic initiative and something we are proud to support.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone at our first Talkin’ Tables event on Monday 26th October 2026, and on any subsequent Mondays.”

Talkin’ Tables was founded by Marjorie Hayward in Chorley on 19th July 2021 as a means of helping people to emerge from the Covid lockdown and shielding.

Marjorie recognised that loneliness and isolation had become a growing issue even before the Covid pandemic, with the lockdowns heightening the issue.

Dorothy Livesey said:

“Marjorie has a nursing background and was the Nursing Lecturer at UCLAN (the University of Central Lancashire) in Preston.

“She saw how important it is for people to be able to come out into a welcoming and inclusive space and to enjoy a coffee or a cup of tea with others. No-one should feel they’re on their own.

“Marjorie has been recognised for the impact her ideas are having on people’s lives, winning a BBC Make A Difference Award in 2024.

“We’re really pleased to have been offered this weekly space at The Bold. James and his team have been very helpful.

“Since Talkin’ Tables began in 2021, it has been a huge success.

“Events are now taking place in 108 venues all around the UK, with three in Cyprus. They’re starting up in India soon.

“This is one of our first venues in Merseyside, so we hope they will continue to grow.

“Many people who come along say it has changed their lives. They tell us how they have been able to meet new people and form new friendships.

“I am really keen to make people aware about Talkin’ Tables in Southport!

“I have been out to drop leaflets at The Atkinson, at Southport Library, and at Tesco on Albert Road and Sainsbury’s on Lord Street, as well as in some local doctors’ surgeries. Please help us to spread the word!

“All ages are welcome, there is no distinction at all about who comes along.

“We just want to see people come along, sit down with a cuppa, talk socially with others, and enjoy themselves.”
