From events with leading authors, hands-on activities and a new town-wide trail inspired by the iconic book The Jolly Postman as part of its 40th birthday celebrations, organisers are promising lots of fun.
There are nine stops to explore in The Jolly Postman Trail, including three at Wayfarers Arcade:
- The Wicked Witch
- The Giant
- Grandma’s Cottage
You can also see The Giant’s Postcard in the window at the former Beales department store on Lord Street, to the front of Wayfarers Arcade.

The Jolly Postman Book Trail map was released this week. It sees nine large-scale installations around the town centre, including at key locations such as the Wayfarers Arcade, Southport Market and Lord Street through Books Alive!
Families are invited to follow a specially designed trail map, discover immersive storybook scenes, meet the familiar fairytale characters, and even post their own letters along the route.
Other stops include Marble Place, Southport Market, Waterstones bookshop, the Town Hall Gardens, and the Mermaid Gardens.
A Wayfarers Arcade spokesperson said:
“Here is a look behind the scenes as the team at Make. are busy developing ideas and bringing this magical trail to life.
“We can’t wait to see their creations appear across Southport this October and we are proud to say there will be more than one installation inside Wayfarers Arcade!

“Make CIC have been commissioned to work with artists from across the Liverpool City Region to create nine installations, transforming sites across Southport with imaginative scenes inspired by The Jolly Postman & Other Stories and the classic fairy tales featured within the story, including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks.
“There are nine large-scale story installations to discover from 24 – 31 October, 10am – 4pm daily, and they can be visited in any order, allowing families to create their own storybook adventure through Southport town centre.”
