Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group, which owns businesses in Southport, has announced the takeover of an estate agents, creating 25 new jobs.

The Group, which owns The Bold Hotel, Lord Street Hotel and Punch Tarmeys on Lord Street in Southport, now owns David Davies Sales & Lettings Agent in St Helens.

The firm plans to make its new acquisition one of the largest Sales and Letting agencies in the North West.

Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group (MHALG) has become a major player throughout various aspects of hospitality, leisure and property in the North West, namely, Manchester, Southport, St Helens and Liverpool, with a string of bars, hotels, restaurants and most recently one of Europe’s biggest gaming arcades to its name.

David Davies Sales & Lettings is one of the oldest sales and lettings businesses in the North West and was founded by the late David Davies in 1981. MHALG  has now joined this highly respected brand alongside David’s wife, Paula Davies (MNAEA), who has agreed to remain in place as an executive director of the company.

Andrew Mikhail, chairman of MHALG, said: “I am very excited to have bought such a prestigious business in St Helens and keeping Paula involved in the business was crucial to me. Paula was David’s rock both within and outside of the business for the last 21 years until his untimely death last year.

“I got to know David and Paula extremely well in the later years as I used their services and was so impressed with the way that they conducted their business that it was such an easy decision to make the purchase.

“When we were completing our due diligence, what impressed me most was the sheer volume of lettings that they manage across the region, together with how efficiently they ran them for the landlords. The professionalism and work ethic of the sales team to get sales over the line also spoke volumes.

“It will be great to continue to work with the people of St Helens who are already so supportive of one of my other businesses, The Eccleston Arms, which grew a very special bond with the town and surrounding areas after we transformed the venue into an essential items store during the lockdown alongside The Steve Prescott Foundation and I have seen what can be done when people work together as a team.

“I will grow David Davies to become one of the largest Sales and Letting agencies in the North West, growing a business on a 40 year solid foundation, thanks to David and Paula Davies and their team, makes my goal achievable.”

Andrew Mikhail took over the company yesterday (Tuesday, October 13).

Following David’s death, Paula, her 12 year old twin sons, Harry and Luke, his mother Joan and sister Nicola, state that they are delighted to see David’s name live on and for the business to continue to grow and are sure he will be looking down with a smile on his face today.

Paula said: “David Davies is a great business with brilliant staff who have worked with us for a long time, but we have been through a lot in the last 12 months and it’s a credit to the team that we are in such a good position now.

“David and I have known Andrew for many years and know he can offer the company a bright future. He has a lot that he can bring to the business, but importantly for us, he acknowledges the existing brand and wants to take that further.

“It’s already a very strong St Helens brand but there are now big plans for the business, and I’m delighted for the staff because they really deserve for this to happen.”

Andrew Mikhail said: “I am grateful to Paula for choosing us when I know she had so many other interested parties, but she knows mine and my team’s track record and we’re looking forward to working together and with our expansion plans, creating 25 new jobs over the next 12 months.

“We’re very excited for the future of  David Davies Sales and Lettings and the Mikhail Group.”
