A Southport church has been playing a vital role to help the NHS during the Coronavirus lockdown by offering its premises for people to give blood.

Monday saw the National Blood service once again using the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, on Preston New Road, Southport, to provide its services.

Tomorrow, Thursday October 15th, they will return to use the Church again to take blood donations from 1pm.

It’s the ninth time this year that the NHS has been able to use this venue for its vital services. The Bishop of the Church, Peter Rigby said: “It’s the last scheduled blood drive of the year at our building.

“We have been happy to be able to accommodate the service so many times throughout lockdown as it carries out this vital work in our community.

“We understand that they have seen problems at other venues during the pandemic, mainly because of lockdown restrictions.

“We have been able to facilitate them due to the voluntary help of our members who have willingly organised themselves to clean, prepare and open up the building for the NHS to use.

“They then return to carry out the deep cleaning necessary so that Church services can be held on Sundays.

“These preparations have of course all been done abiding by our local social distancing measures, meaning it’s had to be organised with great precision.”
