A local counselling company in Southport is able to match the right counsellor with the client they can help the best.
JHD Counselling is celebrating its 10th birthday this year.
It has a number of counsellors based in and around the town, supporting adults, children, families, schools and businesses with a wide variety of issues.
Owner Carol Harmston-Dean said: “We now have ten counsellors available in Southport.
“They are all based in and around the Southport area.
“We have counsellors based in Southport, Birkdale, Ainsdale, Hesketh Bank, among other places.
“They are people who are very much invested in the town and really know the area.
“We include two people here who do intakes and assessments and supervision as well as counsellors, making us a team of 12.
“We offer absolutely everything to help people. We have been helping clients with a huge array of issues from anxiety and depression to bereavement, grief and loss, home and work stress, relationships, sexuality and identity, self-harm, anger management, and many more besides.
“We offer 1-1 counselling, with children or adults.
“We offer couples counselling, we do family counselling.
“Our advantage is that we have a choice of counsellors available, so that we can match the perfect counsellor to the right client.
“Our aim is to provide accessible, high quality services that offer the support our clients’ need.
“A lot of other counselling firms only have one person involved so that is much more restrictive.
“With the cost of living crisis, we understand the pressures that people are facing, so we are keeping our prices low.
“We offer a drop-in and wellbeing service which lots of people find very useful.
“We are currently running a Spring Offer of a 30 minute wellbeing session for just £25.
“Someone might need a one-off session so that they can offload, or they might need to learn some coping strategies to deal with various issues they may be facing.
“Our prices have also been reduced to £30 instead of £50 for an intake and first six counselling sessions.
“People can also speak to us over the phone or via Zoom, to make our service easier and more accessible for people.
“That is one thing which changed during the pandemic. As soon as it arrived, all our staff grabbed their laptops and started doing Zoom sessions. It is sometimes easier and more convenient for people that way.”
JHD Counselling is now well-established, celebrating its 10th birthday this year.
After three years of studying, Carol qualified as an integrative counsellor in 2007.
Since then she has become a self-employed counsellor working from home. Private practice work included 1-2-1 counselling both face-to-face and over the phone.
She decided to expand her private practice to become an organisation, JHD Counselling, rather than a single counsellor. She has worked hard to build up a dedicated and loyal team of counsellors that are excellent practitioners.
While maintaining its strong local roots, JHD Counselling has become one of the UK’s quickest and most responsive national counselling service and trainer providers for people, families, schools, colleges, businesses and organisations.
All of the JHD Counselling services are supported by an in-house team of trained safeguarding leads and a team of qualified supervisors.
The approach is tailored to fit the needs of each unique client by providing personalised assessments and matching each person to the most suitable counsellor or supervisor on the team.
Carol said: “The company is 10 years old this year!
“It was founded in 2013 in Cambridge, where I lived at the time.
“I relocated with my wife to the Southport area in 2016, we love it here.
“My wife is Southport born and bred and has the biggest family in the world! It’s good to be near everyone.
“When we were living in the Cambridge / Peterborough area, JHD Counselling was working with Cambridge University, with local schools and various local businesses there.
“It would be great to reach out to any local schools, colleges or businesses in Southport that might need our support too.”
