Organisers of Southport Comedy Festival have thanked business sponsors for supporting this year’s event.

They include a number of local businesses in Formby, such as Cockbain & Associates, Acorn Insurance and Elbow Lane Dental Care.

Chris Norris from Cockbain & Associates said: “We are proud to be supporters of Southport Comedy Festival, which is a superb event for Southport and the Liverpool city region.

“It hosts some of the top comedians from across the UK and attracts lots of people into the area.

“We really appreciate Brendan Riley and Val Brady for just how much effort they put into making this festival what it is.

“It is the biggest comedy festival outside of Edinburgh and is getting better every year.

“It keeps improving and evolving all the time.

“Now is a great time for local businesses to become involved and support this special event as it develops and grows.

“We are looking forward to taking some of our clients with us to see the festival and see some of the best acts in the business.

“It is a great opportunity to experience something really different.”

Southport Comedy Festival organiser Brendan Riley said: “We are delighted to have some of the businesses in Formby, including Cockbain & Associates, Acorn Insurance and Elbow Lane Dental Care, joining us among the sponsors at Southport Comedy Festival once again.

“Acorn Insurance and Elbow Lane Dental Care are previous supporters of the festival and we are really pleased to see Cockbain & Associates come on board with us as well this year.

“The festival has always relied on sponsorship from local businesses to be able to take place.

“Without their support every year, we would struggle to hold this event, and we would like to thank everyone who has given us their backing.

“When we took over Southport Comedy festival 12 years ago, David Barron, owner of Barron Financial Solutions, really helped us to make the event happen through his sponsorship, his support and his guidance which led to other great sponsors such as Mark and Lyn Cunningham from Anthony James Estate Agents becoming involved.

“It has been great to get lots of other local businesses backing us since then, some of whom have sponsored us year in and year out.

“Things are progressing very well with this year’s Southport Comedy Festival! Ticket sales are already doing very well, the brochures are now out in venues across the region, and banners are up, all featuring our sponsors’ names.

“These companies are genuinely bringing the very best comedy talent to our town.”

Southport Comedy Festival 2023

The 2023 Southport Comedy Festival in association with Halliwell Jones BMW is back for its 12th year, with the full line-up now revealed.

From 29th September to 15th October stars of the comedy world will descend on the lovely seaside town of Southport for 17 fun filled days of laughter.

The entire festival will be staged for a third year in a giant luxury heated and seated marquee courtesy of Elite Marquees in Victoria Park, home of the world-renowned Southport Flower Show.

Thousands of comedy goers came along over the last two years to enjoy the festival in a marquee and the feedback has been so good that it is all happening again but this time it’s bigger and better than ever.

Alongside returning favourites Jason Byrne, Paul Sinha, Rich Hall, Gary Delaney, Nina Gilligan and Jimeoin this star-studded festival welcomes TV comedians Tom Davis, Seann Walsh, Clinton Baptiste, Simon Brodkin, Jen Brister, Mark Steel, Emmanuel Sonubi and Mark Nelson.

The festival is also supporting the stars of tomorrow with the return of the Southport New Comedian of the Year Competition, sponsored by Dragon Soop. This event is always a highlight of the festival.

Southport Comedy Festival Director Brendan Riley said: “The festival is also proud to support charity fundraising. This year we will be ‘raising money while raising a smile’ with special charity events planned for two great local charities Community Link Foundation and Southport Flower Show.

“Once more we are extremely grateful to our fantastic local and national sponsors. Without their support we just couldn’t bring you such great comedy year after year.

“So folks, come along to the Southport Comedy Festival this autumn and Keep Southport Smiling!”
