Southport restaurants are stepping up to help provide free meals to children who need help during this October Half Term.

The venues offering to help are below, with places in Southport town centre, Birkdale, Burcough, Churchtown and Marshside.

A number of local residents and companies have already offered to provide financial support for the restaurants which are supporting local families, which have themselves been hit hard by the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Owners of The Grapevine restaurant and wine bar, on Botanic Road in Churchtown Village, said: “The support we have had from the local community has been amazing. We have had donations from lots of lovely customers, our fantastic butcher Mark Barton has donated the product, generous donations including a whopping £200 from Dale Greenhalgh and Leah, lots of other people offering to drive and deliver, it really is mind blowing the generosity.

“We are extending this to anyone in need at the moment, anyone who can’t afford to feed themselves, or a loved one who may not want to reach out. Any families struggling due to furlough, low wage, unemployment, or the elderly, no questions asked.
“We will act in strictest confidence. Orders will be available to collect just like our normal takeaway service all you do is come in, tell us the name of the order and it will be ready to collect.
“This offering is lasagne and vegetables cooked by our talented chef Mike Marshall and suitable to be reheated at home. Just give us a message on Facebook, Instagram or a call on 01704 507977 and we would love to help!”

La Tabella, on Botanic Road in Churchtown Village, has been inspired by Manchester United and England footballer Marcus Rashford to step forward and help the local community.

Owners Rob and Liza Smallman said: “We decided to offer the free meals for children as we are obviously aware of all the work Marcus Rashford and many others are doing and we wanted to do something to help our local community.

“We are offering free pasta dishes which are freshly cooked and full of healthy ingredients which can be warmed up at home to any children who need them during the October half term holiday.

“We would like anyone to either message or call us so we can sort their meals for them.

“Also we are encouraging people to nominate anyone they feel would appreciate the meals but may be too shy to come forward themselves.

“Although things are really hard for the hospitality industry at the moment and we are struggling like never before we felt we still needed to put it into perspective and we couldn’t sit back and let children in our local area go hungry.

“Rob, Liza, Dan and the whole team at Tabella are behind this 100% and we all hope we can make a little difference to the lives of our neighbours.”
