There is lots to enjoy at The Atkinson in Southport this week. 

Sadly, it’s the last chance to see two stunning exhibitions; Paper My Wishes by Suhail Shaikh, and Quilt / Grid / Pattern. 

Call in on Saturday (24th February 2024) to enjoy Ukrainian Traditions: Art and Food, with lots to enjoy. 

There are some sold out events including Gareth Gates in the Best of Frankie Valli, Totally Tina and An Introduction to Felting Techniques, which shows it’s always worth booking your tickets in advance for shows you’d love to see!

Crochet Poppies Workshop

Come along to make a crochet poppy to take home with you.

As part of The Atkinson’s ‘The Many’ project, Molly Osborne will be on hand to show you how to make a lovely poppy in keeping with the thousands currently on display as part of Suhail Shaik’s ‘Paper my Wishes’ exhibition. The session will take place in the art box, with the back drop of the incredible paper Lancaster Bomber.

No need to book and open to all from beginners to the advanced.

All materials will be provided.

On the last day of the Echoes of Ages exhibition, and the second anniversary of the Russia/Ukraine conflict, join us at The Atkinson for a celebration of Ukrainian culture. In the evening, The Atkinson will light up yellow and blue to mark this anniversary, and the end of the exhibition.

Petrykivka Painting: A Ukrainian Folk Art Workshop
10:30am – 3:30pm, Art Box. 

Learn the secrets of this intricate decorative style, characterised by swirling floral motifs and vibrant colours. Create your own stunning masterpiece to take home.

Ukrainian Lunch
12:00pm – 2:00pm, Theatre Bar. 

Sample a traditional Ukrainian luncheon with Valentina.

Ukrainian Namisto Beading Workshop
2:30pm – 3:30pm, Museum Landing. 

No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to explore and create! Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or simply curious about Ukrainian culture, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to unleash your creativity and express yourself through a unique art form.


In The Shop: Motanka Dolls


These are traditional Ukrainian folk dolls made from natural materials like straw, cloth, and thread. They are typically faceless and have simple features, and are often adorned with symbols and patterns that hold special meaning.

Motanka dolls were traditionally made by women as charms or talismans to bring good luck, health, and protection to their families.

These dolls have been handmade especially for our shop and are looking for a happy home!
