A fast-growing North West firm is providing the spark behind everything from new hotels to football clubs, schools, and city halls – and they have even played their part in getting an NHS Nightingale Hospital up and running.

Ben Carter Electrical Contracting Ltd has teamed up with sister company ASG Integrated Systems Ltd to move into brand new premises in Southport.

It means they can now offer “the full package” on a variety of design and build projects as they specialise in all aspects of domestic, commercial and industrial electrical work, fire alarms, intruder alarms and CCTV installation, as well as maintenance work. Their combination of  decades of experience with a modern, professional approach has led to their rapid success.

While thousands of other firms downed tools during the Coronavirus lockdown, they used their time to refurbish their new premises, on Old Park Lane in Southport, as well as being called on for their expert help for the brand new NHS Deeside Nightingale Hospital, in Deeside which was built in rapid time.

Director Ben Carter said: “ASG were called out to fit fire alarms throughout the new Rainbow Hospital in Deeside, and worked on the project throughout April.

“It was great to get the call and to be able to go down and assist and help out with what they were doing.

“We have been busy refurbishing our new premises in Southport too. It means that we can now offer even more for our clients and it has helped to broaden our scope of work.”

There are eight employees with Ben Carter Electrical Contracting Ltd, with six electricians who have all completed apprenticeships with the company, reinforcing the company’s vision of developing and supporting young local apprentices. Ben heads up ASG with fellow director Dale Robertson, with a further two employees.

One of the major schemes they have been involved with is the extensive refurbishment of Bliss Hotel on the Promenade in Southport.

Ben said: “Over the past 18 months we have carried out electrical and renovation work on the Waterfront Suite and their stunning new events space, which they call ‘The Room’. It has  beautiful views across the Marine Lake. There is nothing like it for miles around.

“We have also completed work on their brand new penthouses as well as renovating rooms on their fourth and fifth floors.

“Work was temporarily halted when the Coronavirus outbreak started in March, but we are looking forward to going back to carry out more work there after lockdown, when we will begin renovating the ground floor of the hotel.”

Working on such a huge project in their hometown has been a great source of pride for the company.

Ben said: “I have been working in the electrical industry for over 17 years. When I was serving my apprenticeship a lot of the work I did was out of town. I spent lots of nights working away – so it is great to be carrying out my trade in my hometown.

“We became involved with Bliss Hotel when we were doing the electrical work for the Perfectly Frank movie which was being filmed there. We met the owners of the hotel and we hit it off straight away, we built up a great relationship from there.

“They asked us to carry out some electrical work and we have worked with them on a number of projects since then.”

The firm is also contracted to carry out electrical work for Roman Catholic primary and high schools across Liverpool, while other clients include Sefton Council, Specsavers, Clarke Energy, David Pluck bookmakers, EFT Systems, Hesis, numerous building contractors and commercial buildings including a number of estate agents.

They also carry out electrical work for Southport Football Club, where they have subsequently become a sponsor, further investing in their hometown.

Ben Carter Electrical Contracting Ltd and ASG will cover everything from a small domestic rewiring to renovating some of the region’s top end homes and bigger projects such as schools, hotels and football clubs. Hull City Hall is one of their recent projects.

Moving into their new premises has allowed the firms to offer much more comprehensive packages.

Ben said: “We have taken on two CAD designers and have installed CAD printers and CAD software so we can reach out into the design element of the job. We now work on design and build projects, working alongside consultants and developers. We can do the full electrical design package. We also have an in-house health and safety officer so that we can ensure that all of our risk assessments are site specific. All angles are covered now. We are an NICEIC Approved Contractor along with additional accreditations and members of prestigious bodies such as Chas, Constructionline, ECA, Electrotechnical Certification Scheme and OLEV.

“We went from having one van in 2013 to having nine vehicles on the road, which just shows how much our company has grown and developed.

“Working with ASG as well means we can also provide fire alarms, intruder alarms and CCTV systems. We are also working on electric vehicles (EV) charge points, a growing new part of our business.

“Our firm is built on the strength of our reputation and we never lose sight of that.

“We are immensely proud of our record in the industry and our business model of attracting new clients almost exclusively through word of mouth. We appreciate that this will only continue if we maintain the high level of workmanship and attention to detail that our company has been diligently built on.”
