People are being asked for their help to share more information about dozens of war heroes buried in Churchtown and Crossens in Southport and in Banks in West Lancashire.

North Meols Family History Society is leading the project, titled the Commonwealth War Graves Project.

Lynns Trees from the Society said: “We have undertaken a project to document the lives and families of the 57 men and 1 woman who have Commonwealth War Graves in either:

St. Cuthbert’s Church (45)

St. John’s Church at Crossens (8)

St Stephen’s Church at Banks (5).

“Information is being gathered from online Birth, Marriage and Death Records, Parish Records, Census Returns, online Forces Records, the Southport Visiter and the Southport Guardian reels in The Atkinson and Crosby Library.

“However, if you are related to or know anyone who is related to any of the above people and could assist our research or would like to contribute your own memoirs of them please email alexroberts.nmfhs@gmail.com and your e-mail will be passed to the person researching  them.”

The military personnel being researched served in the Royal Air Force,  the British Army and the Royal Navy during either the Great War / First World War or the Second World War, or during the periods shortly afterwards.
