An amazing member of the Catering Team at Southport Hospital recently celebrated her 80th birthday.
Renate started working in the kitchens at the old Southport Infirmary in 1967 and has been a key member of the team ever since, helping to prepare meals for patients and staff and ensuring all the pots are washed to her high standards.
It’s been quite the journey for Renate who came to England on holiday from Germany, not speaking a word of English, in 1965 – and liked it so much that she has stayed ever since.
She said: “I’m not thinking of retiring anytime soon. I love my job, it keeps me fit and I love being with the people I work with.
“We have a lovely team here and I know if I didn’t do this, I would miss it so much. I’m still able to do the work and the thought of staying in my house every day definitely isn’t for me”.
Angela Wakefield, Catering Services Manager, said: “Renate is just a fantastic colleague.
“No one even considers her age as she is just such a fantastic worker. We pride ourselves on the quality of service we deliver, and she has been key to that for many years because her standards are so high.’’
