Southport’s restaurants and bars are urging customers to call in and see them one last time this weekend before new Covid lockdown restrictions are announced on Monday (12 October).

No decisions have yet been revealed over which businesses may or may not close, but it is believed that hospitality businesses will follow those in many parts of Scotland in being ordered to close temporarily following the recent rise in coronavirus cases.

The new restrictions would be expected to come into force from next Wednesday.

Susannah Porter, owner at Remedy on Lord Street and Remedy on Botanic Road in Churchtown Village, said: “Thank you for your continued support!

“As we all know, restrictions are getting tighter and tighter by the day.

“We cannot stress how much we appreciate all of our lovely customers’ support over this tricky period.

“As many of you know, all hospitality venues could “POSSIBLY” be closing as of next Monday for the foreseeable. Your continued support this weekend would be very much appreciated. We are trying our best!

“Come see us this weekend.”

Spenders Bar, on Scarisbrick Avenue in Southport, is hosting a Virtual race Night from 5pm this Sunday.

Owner Paul Drewery said: “So it’s looking like the North is going to go into lockdown from next week.

“Sunday could be your last chance of a socially distanced drink (obviously with your own household or bubble members!)

“So come on, get your table booked for our first Virtual Race Night of the race season, the Quarantine Stakes, the Lockdown Derby and the Covid Chase just some of the races to bet on with ‘Spender Cash’  this Sunday from 5pm!”

Staff at The Guest House pub on Union Street, which was recently awarded the title of CAMRA Southport & West Lancs Pub Of The Year, were cheered up when a customer brought in flowers.

They said: “Just when everything looks bleak along comes a customer with these beautiful flowers as a pick me up. Little things like this prove how lucky we are to have people like these as customers.

“Looking forward to the future , fingers crossed we all come through this in one piece.to all businesses hope to see you reopen.”
