Southport MP Patrick Hurley has sent his “thoughts and prayers” to the victims of the Hart Street tragedy in Southport as he praised the work carried out by NHS hospital workers who are treating the victims as well as emergency service workers on the scene.

He said: “My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families of the horrific attack on Hart Street today. I am deeply saddened by the news that two children have been fatally injured. I hope for the swift and full recovery of all the other victims of this senseless attack and I thank the staff at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Southport and Formby Hospital, and Aintree University Hospital for their care for those affected.

“I would like to thank the police, emergency services and local residents who came to the aid of casualties. If anybody has any information relating to this incident, I encourage them to contact Merseyside Police and I would reiterate calls for people not to speculate about this incident and to be careful about what they share online.

“I am on my way back from Westminster to join with the community, police, and emergency services to support those affected by the attack. I have remained in contact with Merseyside Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Home Office throughout their response.

“I want to particularly thank our community for sticking together and helping those affected in the aftermath of the attack. I have heard of the many stories of volunteers and our local businesses supporting the families affected and our emergency services, and I am proud of our community’s unity and support at this difficult time.

“This is shocking news for our community, but we will stand strong against this mindless violence and I will work with other community leaders to help our town and our community pull through this horrific incident.”
