Southport Makers Market is proving to be so popular that it is set to expand, “to improve the economic revival of Southport Indoor Market”.

The popular gathering, which sees over 60 artisan craft and food makers meet on the first Sunday of every month, first took place on 6th June this year.

The event takes place on Market Street, outside the side entrance of Southport Market, which opened as an exciting new food, drink and events venue in July following a £1.4million transformation.

Southport Makers Market will soon expand to include a section of King Street too.

In a report to councillors, Sefton Council Head of Highways and Public Protection Peter Moore said: “To improve the economic revival of Southport Indoor Market following the recent COVID pandemic, the Manager of the market has requested that an outdoor market be introduced on King Street.

“A monthly market was recently approved and commenced for a period of twelve months from Sunday 6th June on Market Street, and this extension to the market is intended to complement that initiative.

“The location of the market will be on King Street between its junction with Market Street and Eastbank Street.

“The market will be held during normal Sunday trading hours of 11am and 4pm and it will be held on the first Sunday in every month provisionally for the next twelve months.”

The proposed dates for the expanded Southport Makers Market are:

Sunday 3rd October 2021

Sunday 7th November 2021

Sunday 5th December 2021

Sunday 2nd January 2022

Sunday 6th February 2022

Sunday 6th March 2022

Sunday 3rd April 2022

Sunday 1st May 2022

Sunday 5th June 2022

Sunday 3rd July 2022

Sunday 7th August 2022

Sunday 4th September 2022 1.3

Peter Moore wrote: “It is proposed that the market stalls will be placed on the carriageway of King Street.

“To maintain health and safety for the stallholders and for the general public it is therefore necessary for a temporary Traffic Regulation Order to be put in place to close King Street to all traffic. The Traffic Regulation Order will be in operation for the duration of the market between 6am and 6pm and to allow stallholders to set up and dismantle their stalls at the end of the day on the dates described.”
