Stand Up For Southport Blog by Andrew Brown

Southport has always been a stunning place to live – now it’s fast becoming one of the best places in the Liverpool city region where people can work too.

Forget the commute. The big city. The bustle. If you’re a remote worker, hybrid worker, creative or freelancer, then there is lots of space where you can work at times and a frequency to suit your work and your lifestyle.

I’ve published features this week on Southport’s first ever co-working space, Werksy, and the new arts, dining and theatre space, The Fool, opening soon underneath it.

I’ve blogged today about The Engine Room, a flourishing space for creatives and freelancers which is developing rapidly throughout some of the vacant units inside the historic Wayfarers Shopping Arcade.

This site is next – the new Southport Enterprise Arcade, being developed by Sefton Council through the vision of K2 Architects as one of the initiatives from Southport Town Deal.

There’s been excellent support for these spaces through the likes of Southport BID and Southport College.

There are tons of excellent local, independent coffee shops where you can open a laptop and work away: let me know where you recommend.

It’s come a long way since I grabbed my laptop at the start of Stand Up For Southport four years ago and struggled to find somewhere suitable to base myself.

Now we are seeing more options.

It’s something we need to build on as one of the great USPs for Southport.

Working in them is a great opportunity for start-ups, small businesses and creatives to build contacts, learn and flourish together.

The extra footfall in the town centre will support other local businesses such as cafes, shops and restaurants.

Funding could really accelerate what these co-working spaces can achieve.

I’m really excited at being part of Southport’s co-working space and watching it develop
