Lord Street in Southport

This weekend will see Southport Half Marathon return for its 8th and best edition to date, on a  traffic free route which includes Lord Street in Southport town centre.

The event starts at 9am this Sunday, 27th June 2021.

Sefton Council has approved Temporary Road Closures and restrictions on various roads while the race takes place.

The event will take place on 27th June 2021 and road closures will be in place from 8am until 1.30pm as and where necessary for the safety of the participants and all road users.

Access will be maintained for Emergency Services, and wherever possible for residents.

The diversion route for all traffic will be via: Shore Road, Kenilworth Road, Liverpool Road, Liverpool Avenue, Waterloo Road, Lulworth Road, Lord Street West, Lord Street, Albert Road, Park Crescent, Cambridge Road, Preston New Road and vice versa.

Organisers Fylde Coast Runners said: “The  route is the only  running event in the history of Southport to be permitted to close Lord Street to traffic and allow participants to run through the heart of this famous seaside resort with  blingtastic medals and tech T-Shirts for all finishers.

“Fylde Coast Runners have taken over the reigns  of this event which was formerly  organised by our friends at Epic Events.

“The route has changed for the 2021 event. This is partly due to relocating the venue to a much larger space on Marine Drive.

“We are also taking into consideration any Coronavirus restrictions (social distancing) that may be  in place at the time. The new route gives space for everyone to enjoy the event with no narrow pinch points.

“We must stress how important it is to maintain social distancing whilst within the start area and when out on the course. Please also remember only runners are permitted within the start area.

”Keep 2m apart from fellow competitors at all times.”

Organisers are strongly recommending all runners to take a Covid-19 Test (Rapid Lateral Flow) before arriving at the event.
