After 16 years as Headteacher, and a further two years as Deputy Headteacher, Mr Julian Ward is retiring from Larkfield Primary School in Southport, bringing to a close an outstanding 18 years of service to the school and a 25-year career in education.
Throughout his time at Larkfield, Julian has become synonymous with the school’s warm, welcoming and inclusive culture. Under his leadership, Larkfield Primary School has flourished as a place where children come first, families are valued, and the local community is at the heart of everything the school does.
Known for his caring nature, unwavering commitment to inclusion and infectious love of music, Julian has inspired generations of children while creating a genuine family atmosphere that has made Larkfield such a special place to learn and work. His kindness, compassion and dedication have earned the admiration and respect of staff, pupils and parents alike, and he will be greatly missed by everyone connected with the school.
As one chapter closes, another begins. From September, the role of Headteacher will be taken on by the school’s current Deputy Headteacher, David Palmen, ensuring a smooth transition and continued commitment to the values that have made Larkfield so successful.

“We are looking forward to the future and to continuing to build on the fantastic community spirit we have at Larkfield Primary School. There are some exciting years ahead, and we are committed to ensuring that Julian’s wonderful legacy continues to live on.”
As Mr Ward begins a well-deserved retirement, everyone at Larkfield Primary School wishes him every happiness for the future. His impact on the school, its children and the wider community will be remembered for many years to come, and his legacy of kindness, inclusivity and community spirit will continue to shape Larkfield for generations.
