Tamworth 4 Southport FC 0

A dreadful first half from Southport saw the home side romp into a three goal lead with the goals coming in the 6th, 25th and 39th minutes.

The visitors offered very little in the first half with just a couple of half chances all we had to show.

The second half was slightly better but every time Tamworth went forward they looked a threat and but for some fine saves by Chris Renshaw in the second period the scoreline could have been far worse. A couple of the saves really were excellent.

Tamworth did get the fourth goal in the 76th minute to put the icing on the cake for them.

Josh Hmami went close on 59 minutes and Marcus Carver hit the post with virtually the last kick of the game but it was an afternoon to forget from a lacklustre Southport side.

Jim said post match that there has been quite a lot of illness in the camp this past week with Luke Burgess, Sam Billington and Niall Watson all laid low today but acknowledged we were well beaten by a good side.

A debut for Will Squires.

Line Up: Renshaw. Thomson, Quansah, Squires, Flowers, Morgan, Hmami (Bainbridge 62), Walton (O’Neill 79), Holmes, Carver, Bennett.

Unused Subs: McMillan, Sass, F Heath.

Attendance: 1100, 55 away was announced but there were definitely more than that in the ground.

Referee: Melissa Burgin

Media MOTM: Tyler Walton
