Southport FC 1 Hereford 2

Southport FC went down to a home defeat this afternoon losing 2-1 to Hereford.

An even first half with Southport creating a number of good openings but unable to apply the finishing touch ended with Hereford taking the lead in the 42nd minute after a mix-up in the Southport defence. The eagle eyed Assistant Referee judged the ball to have crossed the line and it was 1-0 to the visitors.

After a bright first half which had started badly with Tyler Walton going off injured inside the first minute the second half was a quiet affair that turned badly wrong when Danny Lloyd was shown a red card in the 60th minute. The Hereford player made the most of a shove by Lloyd and the referee was quick to show a red card.

The best Southport chance fell to Keenan Quansah who burst forward only to see his shot go narrowly over the bar.

Chris Renshaw was in fine form once again making several excellent saves as Hereford made the one man advantage pay.

With Southport throwing caution to the wind it was Hereford who added a second goal in the 90th minute.

There was still time for the home side to peg one back through Marcus Carver in the 93rd minute but despite some late pressure the visitors held on for the 2-1 win.
