Southport FC

Scarborough Athletic 0 Southport FC 1

A disappointing Sputhport FC display on Saturday was quickly forgotten after an excellent 1-0 win at Scarborough, a team with one of the best home records in the National League North.

The first 60- minutes saw a dominant Southport FC side playing as well as we have played all season and if only the finishing had matched the approach play we could have been out of sight.

As it was, it took a looping Tyler Walton header from a Jack Doyle cross in the 47th minute to give us the lead, a lead we clung on to until the end.

It wasn’t without its scares with the home side twice hitting the woodwork with a late flurry of chances and Chris Renshaw was in excellent form in the Southport goal and repelled all that was thrown at him.

Danny Lloyd had hit the bar with a fine free kick in the first half and we had a goal chalked off for offside in the second period.

The only down side of the evening was the red card to Luke Burgess for what appeared to be a tangle with a Scarborough player.

It was surprising that both players didn’t receive the same punishment but with the defence and keeper in such good form it was a night when things went right and a very welcome three points returned to Lancashire.
