Southport Football Club is delighted to welcome back fans for a league game for the first time in six weeks this weekend.

Haig Avenue will be bouncing as the Sandgrounders take on Hereford this Saturday (25th February 2023) for the first game since they faced AFC Fylde on Saturday 14th January.

That Lancashire coast derby was watched by an impressive crowd of 1,333 fans, which followed a bumper gate of 1,345 supporters on 2nd January.

It is hoped that a large attendance is in store for the players when they run onto the pitch this weekend.

Southport have some games in hand to catch up on after a number of postponements recently, including on Tuesday night, when a failed boiler led to the game being called off.

They have played two or three games less than some of the sides above them as they look to make up for lost ground and make a charge for the play-offs with 10 home games remaining.

A Southport FC spokesperson said:

“Tickets are on sale for our game against Hereford here at Haig Avenue on Saturday, the kick off is at the usual Saturday time of 3pm.

“It was frustration all round on Tuesday with the boiler failure scuppering the chance to see some home league action after six games on the road.

“Hereford will be arriving at Haig Avenue in buoyant mood after a coupon busting 3-1 win at AFC Fylde upset all the odds on Tuesday evening.

“It will only be 18 days since the sides last met at Edgar Street with the home side coming out on top in a 2-0 win. A late penalty and defensive mix up gave the points away in what was caretaker manager Jan Klukowski’s first game in charge after the departure of Josh Gowling.

“The last four games between the sides (as Hereford) have been good for Southport at home but prior to that as Hereford United our visitors certainly held the upper hand, the one win came in the Football League and Championship winning days of 1972/73.”
