People are invited to Sing For Southport when the Eurovision Song Contest takes place this May with the chance to win a £1,000 prize! 

Sing for Southport is your chance to showcase your talent and perform in front of an audience at Southport Calling, a vibrant event taking place at the Lord Street Bandstand on Saturday, 13th May 2023. 

It is among a number of events being organised or promoted by Southport BID this May. 

Successful Sing For Southport entrants will be invited to perform at the Bandstand, where one act will be crowned the winner and receive a £1,000 prize, with a £250 runner-up prize and £100 for all other performers. .

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “We have lots of musical talent here in Southport and we’d love to celebrate that with our Sing For Southport contest. 

“Entering couldn’t be easier – all you have to do is submit a short singing clip between 30 seconds and 90 seconds in duration via our Southport BID website.

“The eyes of the world will be on Southport when this year’s Eurovision song contest takes place and we’d like as many people as possible to take part.” 

Entry guidelines: 

  • Submit a singing clip between 30 seconds and 90 seconds
  • Entrants must be 13 years old or over
  • Entrants must be solo vocalists or duets.  No groups or instruments
  • You must be available to perform at Southport Calling on 13th May 2023 
  • Entries will be judged independently.
  • Successful entrants will be invited to perform their submitted song (in full) at Southport Calling on 13th May 2023 .
  • The winning singer on the day will be decided by a panel of judges.
  • The winning singer at Southport Calling will receive £1,000 prize, with the runner up receiving £250 and all other performers receiving £100

The deadline for entries in 19th April 2023 

Southport will be the place to party when the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest takes place this May.

Southport BID and the Southport business community have lined up lots of exciting events for people of all ages to enjoy including a Southport Calling festival in the town centre.

Southport Calling at the Lord Street Bandstand will be a fun-filled celebration of the best and brightest musical talent from our local community.  

This will include dance groups, live bands, string musicians, and performances from the Sing For Southport competition finalists. The event will be hosted by the team at Sandgrounder Radio.

Southport Calling will start at 12pm with a focus on family fun.  There will be performances from Birkdale Orpheus Society, Holy Trinity Primary School, and an amazing list of local dance groups.

The Sing for Southport competition will start from 2pm, with talented vocalists performing to compete for the top prize.

From 4pm, Southport Strings Ensemble will take the event through to evening, which will then feature a line-up of live bands performing until late.

Lots of local businesses are also joining in the fun with a Eurovision Party at Southport Bijou Cinema, Eurovision Bloopers at Southport Market, Abba Disco Bingo at The Grand and The Bold Hotel, and Eurovision parties at venues including Southport Pleasureland, The Windmill, Royales, The Southport Coaster, and The Guelder Rose.

The Atkinson will be hosting a number of activities and events, including a Eurovision Craft Workshop and the 80s Mania show.  As part of EuroFestival, works from Ukrainian photographers Sasha Kurmaz and Viktor Maruahchenko will be also displayed on The Atkinson’s façade from May until June.

The Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place in the Liverpool Arena on Saturday 13th May with Semi-Finals on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th May.
