Details have been revealed for the 2023 Remembrance service events taking place in Southport.

The annual commemorations of the fallen are being led by Southport Royal British Legion with support from Sefton Council.

There will be a short service taking place on Remembrance Day (Saturday 11th November 2023) with a bigger Remembrance Sunday parade and service the following day.

Veterans are invited to take part in the parade with members of the public invited to come and support and remember those who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of others.

Volunteers from the Royal British Legion, local cadets and others supports have been busy selling poppies from sites including a stall next to Southport War Memorial, the Armed Forces Hub on Wesley Street in Southport town centre, a pop-up stall inside Southport Market and other locations.

A number of ‘poppy hubs’ have been set up in places around Southport such as Ainsdale, Birkdale, Churchtown, Crossens, Kew and elsewhere.

Southport Royal British Legion Chairman Major Nick McEntee said:

“Our volunteers have been out working hard selling poppies ready for next weekend. Here are the details you need for Remembrance Sunday.

“The entire parade will form up on Wesley Street. Anyone wishing to march should make their way to Wesley Street from 9.30am.

“You’ll have the opportunity to grab a coffee from our Armed Forces Community Hub and/or a bacon or sausage barm from our friends Walkers On Wesley Street

“At 10.30am the parade will leave Wesley Street.

“It will then march up Tulketh Street, and onto Chapel Street.

“At 10.45am at the junction between Chapel Street and London Street, the parade will pick up anyone wishing to march a shorter distance to the memorial.

“At 10.50am the parade will form up around The Memorial for the start of the Remembrance Service.

“Members of the public, not marching, should aim to be in place before 10.30am.
