Sefton Artists have enjoyed a “great first week” as they welcomed lots of visitors to their Summer Exhibition and Sale in Southport.

Visitors can admire a variety of works on display at Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street after the exhibition opened last Saturday (1st August 2026), with people invited to call in and look at the works this weekend.

The event continues until Sunday 30th August 2026.

Proceeds from some of the sales will go towards supporting Queenscourt Hospice, which is battling a £2 million deficit.

There is a table with artwork on sale where all proceeds go to the hospice. Other works will donate proceeds from sales, while there is a Queenscourt collection tin available for donations.

One of the artists, Anne Wilson, said:

“We’ve had a great first week. We’ve seen really good footfall and are happy with the sales so far.

“Our Queenscourt section has sold very well so I think we’ll have some good money by the end of the exhibition.

“Our opening day last Saturday went very well, we were busy all day. Hopefully it will be similarly busy this weekend.

“Our group is really looking forward to the rest of the month.

“It makes a huge difference being seen on social media, we’re very grateful to everyone who has shared our posts to let people know we are in Wayfarers Arcade this August.”

The Sefton Artists Summer Exhibition and Sale is open 10am-4.30pm Wednesday to Saturday and 11am-4pm on Sundays.

Wayfarers Arcade is a hub of arts and creativity.

As well as the Sefton Artists Exhibition, visitors can also call into Gallery More; Wayfarers Arts; and the Grant Searl & The Northerner Art Gallery, while the arcade also boasts a cafe, a tea room, shops, a barbers, hairdressing and beauty collective, a tattoo and piercing shop, and The Little Museum of Buffoonery. All are local independent businesses.

The arcade recently welcomed thousands of people for its stunning Contemporary Art Exhibition.

Sefton Artists are a group from all over Sefton and West Lancashire.

They were formed in 2010 and have been meeting ever since to paint and share ideas.

From small beginnings the group has grown and still meets weekly in Lydiate Village Centre.

As a group they have a shared interest in producing high quality paintings at affordable prices.

Their mediums include oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolour, and pen and wash.

Their different styles and subjects, from  traditional landscapes to abstracts and experimental work, allows them to appeal to everyone.

Their shared philosophy is a passion for painting, it is their hobby and their interest.

Anne Wilson said:

“When one of our members and a close friend was very grateful for her time at Queenscourt, we decided to do this in her memory.

“We have raised thousands of pounds for Queenscourt Hospice over the years. Our aim now is to reach £10,000.

“I don’t think we’ll quite reach that total this August, although it would be lovely if we could!”

As well as Wayfarers Arcade, Sefton Artists exhibit regularly throughout Sefton, and especially in Southport.

The group has enjoyed many successful exhibitions, each time collecting for and donating to Queenscourt Hospice.

The group also participates each year in the Sefton Open art exhibition at The Atkinson in Southport and also stages their own Landing Exhibition at The Atkinson.
