School children across Sefton will join forces this April to take part in the Sefton says #kNOwKnifeCrime relay race event

The #kNOwKnifeCrime campaign, dedicated to combating youth knife crime, is set to embark on a series of impactful events in Sefton, with the aim of raising awareness and funds to address this pressing issue.

From today (Monday, 15th of April 2024) to 21st April 2024, the campaign will kick off with the participation of primary and secondary schools across Sefton in the TCS Mini London Marathon in schools virtual event.

Over 35,000 children will unite to complete 2.6 miles throughout the week, with the goal of raising funds for the procurement and donation of Knife Saver bleed control kits to communities across the borough.

A highlight of the week will be the Sefton says #kNOwKnifeCrime relay race event on 17th April, where both primary and secondary schools will come together.

With over 1,680 children participating, this symbolic event will see 20 children from each school running to the next, utilising the Knife Savers bleed control kit as the relay baton, covering a remarkable distance of 82 miles. The event aims to showcase a collective stand against knife crime while fundraising for vital bleed control equipment.

Adding to the momentum, on 20th April, 54 children from the Southport Learning Trust will represent the region in the TCS Mini London Marathon, further amplifying the message of solidarity against knife crime.

The campaign culminates on 21st April with the participation of seven dedicated #kNOwKnifeCrime campaigners in the TCS London Marathon.

Notably, two of these campaigners work within the participating schools, while Christina Greaves, the driving force behind the initiatives, will lead the charge.

Laura Hughes, sister of knife crime victim Colin McGinty and founder of #kNOwKnifeCrime, will also participate, emphasising the significance of the cause.

Laura Hughes said:

“These events underscore our commitment to raising awareness and taking tangible action against knife crime.

“We are immensely grateful for the support and participation of everyone involved in making these initiatives a success”.
