Police officers based at Southport Police Station have patrolled local beauty spots in Southport and Formby, urging people to stay at home to stop the spread of Coronavirus

Police in Southport have urged teenagers to stay at home amidst concerns over spreading coronavirus.

Officers say they have received several reports of youngsters gathering in groups in the town.

It comes as the school Easter holidays start today, with a forecast for warm weather in Southport this weekend.

A Southport Police spokesman said: “Feedback from our communities in Southport has been concern about groups of teenagers responsible for anti-social behaviour out in several areas, and concern for some vulnerable elderly residents who appear to be going about as if everything is normal.

“Parents, please remind your teenagers that this is not a holiday.

10 reasons visitors should stay away from Southport (for now)

“They should be avoiding meeting up with friends or anyone who lives in another household, to reduce the risk of picking up and spreading the coronavirus.

“Patrols will be out across the area, checking the locations that we know our young people tend to gather, will disperse groups and may even take some home if required.

“Elderly and vulnerable residents are strongly advised to follow the government’s ‘Stay At Home’ instructions, to reduce the risk to themselves of contracting the infection.”
