Work is under way to create a new Saltrock surf shop in Southport town centre.

The new shop will open at 415 Lord Street, with an exact opening date yet to be confirmed.

The company sells surf inspired clothing and accessories for men, women and children.

Saltrock was started in 1988 by two surfing brothers from South Africa travelling the world looking for waves.

They arrived in London and wanted to get a train straight to the sea. They boarded a train for Cornwall and never looked back.

Angus and Ross loved life in Cornwall but soon grew short of funds.

They put their artistic talents to use and started printing original, surf-inspired designs on t-shirts which they sold from the back of their Austin Allegro.

They named their new brand Saltrock, after their favourite surf break back home in South Africa.

Over 30 years later, technology has changed but the Saltrock team is still passionate about design, functionality and quality.

Passionately true to its heritage, it still produces surf- inspired designs in Devon with freedom woven into the heart of its products, which are now shipped all over the UK.
Saltrock has stores all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with lots in the South East and the South Coast.

The nearest stores to Southport are in St Annes and Fleetwood.

The opening will be a further boost to Lord Street, which is seeing ongoing work at The Grand in the Northern Quarter and The Garrick at the other end of Lord Street.

A new climbing centre and cafe is due to open this year, while the new Occulo Lounge opened last year after a £1 million conversion.
