Tom Davis

By Andrew Brown, Stand Up For Southport

A movie star is coming to perform at Southport Comedy Festival this week.

And he has the numbers of some A-List stars on his mobile phone that he can call up and hang out with.

Like Paddington Bear.

Tom Davis starred alongside Darkest Peru’s most famous star in Paddington 2 as one of Paddington’s inmates, T Bone.

On the big screen Tom has also featured in The Bad Education Movie, and is set to appear in the upcoming Wonka film.

The comedian is also well known for his role as DI Sleet in the BBC Three comedy Murder In Successville, and as Gary King (Jr) in the BBC sitcom King Gary. He also appeared on Judge Romesh, A League of Their Own and more recently on The Great Celebrity Bake Off.

An award winning stand up comedian, he is bringing his Underdog tour to Southport Comedy Festival this Thursday (5th October 2023).

“Paddington’s pretty cool to star alongside!” he said.

“The after show parties were pretty crazy. He’s a bit wild on a night out…”

One movie he is staying tight-lipped about is the eagerly-anticipated new Wonka movie, which is due for release this December, just in time for Christmas.

He said: “I am sworn to secrecy on that one!

“What I can say is that it is going to be one amazing movie to watch.

“I am really excited about people getting the chance to enjoy it.”

So what can people expect from Tom’s stand up comedy show in Southport?

“A big, physical, all out stand up comedy show with lots of big laughs!” he said.

“It’s a big fun show.

“It’s been really well received wherever I’ve been on my Underdog tour so far. I am really proud of it.

“It’s a show that’s very big and very silly – a bit like me really.

“I will be telling people all about growing up and scaffolding for a living, to where I am now, doing a stand up comedy tour and performing in movies. It’s been some journey!

“I have lots of great life stories to tell with lots of funny moments along the way.

“I have performed at some comedy festivals this summer. I enjoy doing comedy festivals, they are always a lot of fun!

“We had some terrible weather earlier this year. I did a comedy festival in Newport in July and the rain was so heavy it was coming in sideways. But people still stayed and watched, which was brilliant.

“It sounds like a great set-up at Southport Comedy Festival, I’m really looking forward to performing there.”

His biggest challenge at the moment is being a proud parent to a two-year-old daughter.

“I am loving being a Dad!” he said.

“Although some sleep would be nice!

“It was funny the other day because Paddington 2 was being shown on BBC1 as I was watching telly with my daughter.

“I suddenly appeared on the screen next to Paddington and it blew her mind! She couldn’t get her head around it.”

Tom Davis began his career on The Morgana Show and The Comic Strip Presents before appearing in numerous Keith Lemon projects, Big School, Plebs, Jekyll & Hyde and Stag. He was later named a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit after Murder in Successville, which he co-created and starred in, became a cult hit.

Embarking on his biggest tour to date with his brand new show, ‘Underdog’, Tom will be exploring life as the longshot.

From leaving school with no qualifications to years working on building sites, all the way to the difficult road to fatherhood, acting in blockbuster films and yet still being told he’s punching by a waiter.

Big Tom Davis’ return to stand up should not be missed.

Tom Davis is among big names announced for this year’s 17 day Southport Comedy Festival which is again being held in a luxury heated and seated marquee courtesy of Elite marquees at Victoria Park.

Irish funnymen and festival favourites Jason Byrne and Jimeoin, world-famous prankster and Lee Nelson creator Simon Brodkin, and star of I’m a Celebrity Seann Walsh are among other names on the bill.
