A much-loved local running group, Lakeside Runners, is celebrating its 7th birthday this April, marking years of bringing the Southport community together through fitness, friendship and fun.
Affectionately known as the “Loopy Lakers,” the club has built a reputation for its unique and supportive approach to running with members regularly looping back, ensuring no one is left behind. A spirit that perfectly reflects the club’s inclusive ethos.
Founded by Nicky Cooper, whose encouragement and leadership have inspired countless members to push beyond their limits, Lakeside Runners has grown into a welcoming community for people of all abilities.

From complete beginners to experienced runners taking on marathons and ultra-distance events, the club continues to champion participation over performance.
The club has also played a key role in helping people take their very first steps into running, delivering numerous Couch to 5K programmes that have encouraged many local residents to become more active and build lasting healthy habits.
Meeting every Tuesday evening at 7pm under Southport Pier, the club’s weekly social run has become a highlight for many locals — offering not just physical exercise, but a vital boost to mental wellbeing and social connection.
Over the past seven years, Lakeside Runners has made a meaningful impact beyond running.

The group has hosted events such as a 24-hour relay around the lake, raising essential funds for local respite centre Revitalise.
Members have also supported the community through Easter egg collections and Christmas toy appeals, alongside organising light-hearted events like sports days featuring sack races, tug of war and egg-and-spoon races.
As the club celebrates its 7th birthday today (23rd April 2026), new members are warmly invited to come along and experience the Lakeside Runners spirit for themselves.

Whether you’re looking to get active, meet new people, or simply enjoy a friendly jog by the lake, Lakeside Runners promises a supportive environment where everyone belongs.
