Sports lovers now have lots to enjoy at the revamped Hoghton Arms pub in Southport town centre.
Julie Goodwin, who is now running the historic venue, has created a new Sports Lounge, bringing in nine large HD televisions so sports fans can enjoy all the live action in style.
She has also welcomed local darts teams and a pool team , with a pool table and dart boards available for customers.
It’s in addition to a revamp of the pub’s dining offering, with food now available seven days a week.
The new investment aims to bring more customers back into a venue which has served generations of local families.
The pub has been welcoming customers since first opening as an hotel in 1838, becoming licensed in 1841. It is due to celebrate its 200th anniversary in just over a decade.

It is the third oldest pub in Southport town centre, behind The Cheshire Lines on King Street, which opened in 1817, and The Windmill pub on Seabank Road, which opened in 1833.
Julie said: “We have brought the room on the London Street side back into use, and turned it into a Sports Lounge, complete with a pool table and dart boards.
“There only used to be one small television set in The Hoghton Arms. Now we have nine large HD TVs, which are perfect for watching live football and other sports. We show games on Sky TV, TNT, and other channels.
“We have painted the pub from top to bottom and have added new lighting. We wanted to make it much brighter, lighter and more welcoming.

“Lots of people don’t know about our hidden gem here – we have an outdoor beer garden, The Oasis, complete with an outdoor TV, tables, and murals of Southport.
“We have already refurbished all of the outdoor furniture.
“I am working with the lovely Tracy from the Plant Room on Market Street to bring some new plants into our garden to brighten it up.
“We have three ladies’ darts teams and a men’s darts team here now, and a pool team.
“We are right next to Southport Train Station so we have screens inside the pub showing all the train times.

“It saves people waiting on the platform in the cold – and if your train is delayed or cancelled, you can stay with us for another pint or for something to eat in our warm and comfy pub.
“We are passionate about providing good quality live music in pubs.
“Every Saturday, we are delighted to be hosting Carl from 3pm, George from 5.30pm and then Phil and Sue’s karaoke from 8pm.

“The Hoghton Arms is one of the oldest pubs in Southport. It has real heritage, and has been a popular place for generations of families to visit since the 1800s!
“It’s coming up to its 200th anniversary which is incredible.
“We want to be an integral part of the local community. We have just held a charity night for Queenscourt Hospice, where we raised £750. We’ll always support good causes where we can.
“We want to create a bright new future for The Hoghton Arms and make it the place for people to come and spend time once again.”
