There is lots going on at The Atkinson in Southport this Half Term!
The family venue, on the centre of Lord Street in Southport town centre, has lots for children to enjoy during their holidays with great theatre shows, family activity including a board games day and a break dancing display, the I Grew Up 80s exhibition, museum exhibits, special events in the children’s library – and the chance to relax and unwind in the A Great Little Place Cafe.

THEATRE – Woodland Tales with Granddad

Follow the great Pirate King’s swashbuckling adventure, as he takes us on a FIVE STAR, critically acclaimed, magical musical journey to find a treasure beyond gold and jewels. Buckle yer swash ye Land-Lubbers – experience an operatic singing adventure created especially for children in a fun and inclusive way.
FAMILY ACTIVITY – UC Crew: Break Dancing Display
Saturday 19 February 2022. 12:30pm-1:30pm.
Free, booking is not required.
UC Crew takeover the Town Hall Gardens outside The Atkinson for a spectacular Break Dancing display, with performances from children, young people & adults from across Sefton.
FAMILY ACTIVITY – Board Games Event
Saturday 19 February 2022. 11am-3pm. Free, drop in event.
What’s your favourite Board Game, Buckaroo, Guess Who, Hungry Hungry Hippos?… Join us at The Atkinson as we play some games suitable for all the family and delve into the exciting and creative world of board games!

Travel through the cultural landscape of 1980’s Britain through the eyes of a child – revisiting the vibrancy, quirkiness and innovation that defined the decade. Discover over 200 iconic treasures – from BMX to Betamax, Dirty Dancing to Donkey Kong, Thompson Twins to Transformers.
CAFÉ – A Great Little Place
Free Entry. Monday – Saturday. 10am – 4pm.

Our award-winning cafés are passionate about great coffee and delicious fresh food. They offer the finest locally-roasted artisan coffee delivered by trained baristas and imaginative food created in their own kitchens. A kids half term lunch bag is £5 and includes a sandwich (ham, cheese, tuna), piece of fruit (apple, banana), carton of juice (apple, orange) and a chocolate cup cake.
MUSEUM – Discover Ancient Egypt
Free Entry. Monday – Saturday. 10am – 4pm.

Our stunning Egyptology museum takes visitors on a journey through what life was like in ancient Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs. Visitors can see an intricately decorated coffin lid, the Mummy of Nes-Amun, a wooden Ba-bird and rare paddle dolls, amongst many other artefacts. Interactive displays include the ‘Weighing of the Heart’ ceremony, X-raying an Ibis mummy and a hieroglyphic jigsaw wall. Take part in our new A.R. experience, The Ba Bird Tour, bringing artefacts to life by scanning the QR codes in the museum with your phone.
MUSEUM – Between Land & Sea
Free Entry. Monday – Saturday. 10am – 4pm.

Between Land and Sea is a museum full of the stories of the people who have lived and worked along the Sefton Coast, from prehistoric times to the present day. Interactive displays include sending a digital postcard, finding ships using sonar and matching birds with their song. Take part in our new A.R. experience, The Local Legends Tour, bringing artefacts to life by scanning the QR codes in the museum with your phone.
LIBRARY – Southport Children’s Library
Free Entry. Monday – Friday. 10am – 4pm. Saturday 10am – 2pm.

The showpiece of Southport Library is the extended children’s section that includes a ship, specially made for the library, named after Kathleen – a real fishing boat built in Southport around 1900. Other areas include a teenage space, self-service machines and a wider range of books. ‘Story & Rhyme Time’ takes place every Wednesday at 11.30am (limited places and booking essential, please telephone the library to reserve a place 0151 934 2118).
