Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa has announced that David Goscombe, former Head PGA Instructor and Assistant Golf Operations Manager at the resort, has returned as Director of Golf and Leisure

Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa has announced that David Goscombe, former Head PGA Instructor and Assistant Golf Operations Manager at the resort, has returned as Director of Golf and Leisure.

Originally from Liverpool, David’s 15-year golf career includes coaching and management roles at DeVere Golf, High Legh Park Golf Club, Kirkby Valley Golf Club, five years at Formby Hall and most recently as Director of Golf at Greencircle Leisure in Liverpool, where David led golf operations at three courses across Merseyside.

David said: “Formby Hall is well established as one of the best golf resorts in the North West and it’s a privilege to return to a place that has played such an important part in my career. Our members and visitors will testify that our facilities are some of the very best on the golf coast, and we’re a really welcoming and friendly place to play as well!

“Our PGA Academy is one of the jewels in our crown and we have some of the top coaches in the region here to teach beginners, professionals, residents and non-residents alike. I’ve got a lot of ideas for the club from resort packages to golf events and will be working closely with our members and the resort team to bring them to life.”

Shima Djedidi General Manager at Formby Hall said: “In David we have brilliant experience combined with deep knowledge of our resort and our members. He was an obvious choice for the role, and we’re excited to have David back at the resort and support him in bringing his great ideas for the club to life.”

Formby Hall Golf Club saw a surge in visitors last summer after Tommy Fleetwood’s success in the Ryder Cup, with a 20% increase in footfall to the driving range and a 43% increase in rounds played on the Woodhey Dunes course.

The club comprises The Old Championship Course, with its wooded areas and water hazards providing definition and character to a course that has hosted the European Seniors, Challenge Tour and Euro-Pro Tours. The Woodhey Dunes 9-hole course captures the charm of links golf. Built on sand and plotting its way through dune style terrain, the course features generous putting greens and strategically placed bunkers. The signature hole is the 2nd, featuring a challenging island green.

Visitors can enjoy a host of other facilities including the PGA Academy, Tommy Fleetwood Academy, Phil Kenyon Putting School, a state-of-the-art Toptracer driving range and the Fairway Bar & Grill at the 19th hole. The club and range is open to the public regardless of golfing ability.
