How good was it to be back dining at Great Himalayas Nepalese Restaurant & Bar?

The service is top notch here, from the young lady handling my telephone booking request, to the warm welcome on arrival, the farewell after the meal and everything in between.

Quality of the food is consistently high.

I sampled a starter that is a recent addition to the menu – Veg Manchurian. ( £5.95)

It was sublime.

A mix of vegetables formed into 4 soft balls & served with a deliciously sweet, sour, hot and very rich topping.

For a meat-eater, this was veggie heaven and comes highly recommended to anyone who hasn’t yet tried the dish.

My main course was an old favourite – Lamb Saag. (£11.50)

The meat melted in the mouth and the thick spinach sauce was flavoured with garlic cumin & ginger.

Better than any saag dish around.

I also had a lentil dish called Jhaneko Daal (£6.50) which was thick, rich and full of flavour.

Oh, and I nearly forgot. I also sampled my dining companion’s starter, which was Lamb Momo (£5.95).

Nepal’s National Dish, these are steamed dumplings filled with lamb mince, ginger, garlic, coriander and a hint of chilli.

They are divine.

I’ve not seen them on a menu before, which makes a visit to this restaurant even more compelling.

All helped along with a pint of their Nepalese draft lager, which sailed down (£4).

I am so pleased to have this truly superb restaurant in Southport.

Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

But a word of warning, once you’ve visited, you won’t ever want to go back to your old favourite “curry house” ever again!
