Six former Everton FC and Liverpool FC footballers pledged their support to Queenscourt Hospice in Southport and encouraged others to do the same.
Ronnie Whelan, Gary Gillespie, Alan Kennedy, Jim Beglin, who played for Liverpool Football Club in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and Ian Snodin and Graeme Sharp, former Everton Football Club stars from the same period, all recorded short videos in which they made a plea for people to financially support Queenscourt at this testing time.
They encouraged people to either make a regular or one-off donation to Queenscourt, or to sign up to the hospice’s Lottery, which carries a first prize of £1,500 along with 21 other cash prizes, each and every week, as part of their Compassionate Communities campaign.
Ronnie Whelan said as part of his message: “Once you have looked after yourself and looked after your loved ones, please can you spare a thought for Queenscourt Hospice, your local hospice? They would be very grateful for any support you can give in the form or a regular or one-off donation.”

This is a sentiment echoed by all six of the football stars.
Queenscourt provides care within the hospice setting and to patients at home, through its In-Patient unit, Queenscourt Connect and Queenscourt at Home services. The charity also sends specialist nurses and doctors into hospital, people’s homes and Care Homes to advise and support patients, families and the frontline staff caring for them.
